The magic of Christmas came alive this year as Aria Care proudly announced the winners of its much-loved annual Christmas Cake Competition. This special tradition not only showcases the culinary talents within Aria Care’s communities but also celebrates the collaboration, creativity, and festive joy shared by residents and team members alike.
The theme “Bake from the Heart” invited participants to pour their love, imagination, and collaboration into every aspect of their creations. Residents played a central role, contributing cherished memories, creative ideas, and their own personal touches to the festive designs. From brainstorming themes to adding the final decorative flourishes, this competition became a celebration of togetherness and the spirit of the season.
Hospitality Director James Clear, who had the honour of announcing the winners, shared his delight: “Every entry is a story – a reflection of the joy, nostalgia, and creativity that our residents bring to the table. It’s truly inspiring to see their memories and festive cheer come to life in such delightful ways. Congratulations to everyone who participated – you’ve filled our hearts and homes with warmth and wonder this Christmas.”
After thoughtful deliberation, the panel of judges crowned the winners based on creativity, resident engagement, and their ability to capture the festive theme:
1st place: Priory Court Care Home in Epsom
Taking the top spot was Priory Court’s stunning tiered nativity scene cake. Designed collaboratively by residents and Chef Jerome, this masterpiece told the story of Christmas with fondant-sculpted figures and heartfelt personal contributions.
2nd place: Deer Park View Care Centre in Teddington
Deer Park View earned second place with a cake symbolising community and togetherness. Residents, families, friends and Head Chef Michael worked hand-in-hand, creating not just a beautiful cake but also wonderful memories.
Runners-up:
Stowford House in Abingdon: Inspired by a recent visit from some penguins, their whimsical cake featured robins, stars, and a snowman, each representing love, guidance, and cherished Christmas memories.
Riverside Place in Ware: A dazzling creation inspired by “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
Special Mentions were also given to Gildawood Court in Nuneaton: Activity Coordinator Vicki’s astonishingly lifelike Santa cake amazed everyone with its detail and charm. And Thames View Care Home in Thames Ditton: Head Chef Grant’s enchanting light-up train track cake combined interactive wonder with festive delight, bringing smiles to residents and visitors alike.
This year’s Christmas Cake Competition was more than just a showcase of culinary skill – it was a testament to the power of connection and creativity. Each cake told a story of love, memories, and the magic of coming together to celebrate the season. Congratulations to all participants!
