Choosing and Funding Care

Seeking a care home for a loved one may be intimidating if you’re new to the process. Plan your steps and gain confidence in knowing your choices with our guide. Costs differ based on the services and location of your care home. To help you get started, here are the steps to take and questions to ask. Focus on the topics that are most important and relevant to you.

What type of care do you need?

Your choice of care will be determined by your needs. Your options range from residential homes that offer a helping hand with the daily tasks for those wishing to retain their independence, through to specialist nursing or dementia homes that offer dedicated support for more complex needs. Find out more about our Types of Care.

Where do you want to stay?

Next, we recommend you give some consideration to where you want to live. Some people want to stay in their current area to remain close to friends, while some opt to move further afield so they can be closer to family. We have homes in both rural locations and in or near towns, so once you know where you want to live you can complete more detailed research on your chosen home.

Consider the home ratings

We recommend that you consider the independent regulators’ most recent ratings of any home you’re researching. All of our care homes are inspected by the relevant regulator, whether that’s in England, Scotland or Jersey, and details of their latest inspection can be found on the homes webpage. Find your nearest home.

Visit the home and meet the team

When you’ve found an Aria Care home that best meets your needs, use the contact options to arrange a visit and meet the Home Manager. You’ll be shown around the home and get the chance to meet the Care Team and other residents, so you’ll get a real feel for daily life in the community. You’ll find Aria Care homes have a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a focus on enjoying life in whichever way you choose. We also recommend looking at the home’s Facebook page to see what activities and events take place regularly.

Determine care fees

The cost of care varies depending on the level of support required and any Local Authority support you may be entitled to. A meeting will be arranged with the Home Manager at the home to determine your exact care needs and calculate the cost based on these.

Agree on a moving-in date

Once you’re happy to move in and have paid your deposit, it’s simply a case of arranging a date to move in. Think about the personal effects you’d like to take with you, and don’t forget our team is always on hand to help hang a picture or help get your new room feeling like home.
