L’Hermitage Care Centre and Beaumont Villa Care Home in St Peter recently hosted our summer fundraiser fete, raising money for Royal British Legion – Poppy Appeal. Royal British Legion are a charity dedicated to providing lifelong support to members and veterans of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. This charity is so important to our team as well as our residents, many of whom have served in the forces or have loved ones who have served, so every year, we all put our heads together to raise money for the cause.
Our activities coordinator, Liza, served in the Army herself so it’s a charity that’s very close to her heart and, as always, she went the extra mile to make it a very special day. She reached out to the local community, joined by her friend, Dee, whose late husband served in the Navy, to collect donations for the fundraiser.
Royal British Legion supported us by providing gazebos and banners and Tracey Williams, president of the charity, hosted our raffle and helped us throughout the day.
Friends, family and the local community came together to support us and make it a day to remember, including the Royal British Legion Riders, a band of bikers dedicated to the charity, who lent a helping hand on our stalls.
Finnis Ark, a fantastic animal charity, brought along two adorable miniature horses to join the party and the kids were smitten with them!
The Military Brass Band blew us away with some epic theme tunes familiar to all, followed by Hot Bananas, a charity group of lovely ladies with some serious singing voices, who stole the show with some awesome 50s-70s classics.
Our talented head chef, Gary, rose to the occasion, sizzling up some irresistible burgers and grilled bockwurst and had everyone putting their orders in, helping to raise a massive sum!
Some of our residents pitched in, holding the fort on our stalls, selling a variety of goodies – books, clothes, ornaments and alcohol, including many items that were generously donated by our friends, families and the local community.
At the end of a super successful day, we are so excited to have raised a whopping £1800!
Our team at L’Hermitage and Beaumont Villa, friends, family and our brilliant community came together in spectacular fashion, contributing to such an important cause and having so much fun while doing it! We are overwhelmed by the community spirit and so proud of Liza and the team for putting on such an amazing event. And we’re not stopping there as we have another fundraiser planned for November… Watch this space!
