Recently at L’Hermitage Care Centre in St Peter, the residents have been busy knitting and preparing Christmas shoeboxes for the local charity Mustard Seed Jersey.

Created in 1998, Mustard Seed Jersey is a small charity that provides support and relief to Eastern Europe. Run by volunteers, the charity has supported several projects by providing families with accommodation, school supplies, food, and clothing.

Keen to help the charity with their Christmas shoeboxes, the residents have been knitting baby bonnets, booties, and small cardigans throughout the year during their weekly Knit ‘n’ Natter club.

Last month, volunteers Rose and Hilary from Mustard Seed Jersey visited the home to collect the beautifully knitted gifts and to tell the residents about the charity and the amazing humanitarian aid they provide.

Activities Coordinator Judith Peck said, “the residents packed small baby toys, items of clothing and baby products into their decorated shoeboxes with pleasure and pride. They were so happy knowing they were contributing first-hand to such a wonderful and worthy cause for small babies who were either refugees or simply in great need of support and warmth.”

L’Hermitage Care Centre which is based in St Peter, on the island of Jersey, offers residential care and nursing care on a permanent and short stay basis, with their sister home Beaumont Villa Care Home based on the same site offering dementia care.
