Welcome to Frethey House

Frethey House Care Home is set in a delightful rural location just to the west of Taunton. We make the most of our location to get out and about in Somerset, visiting local attractions, enjoying a pub lunch or having tea in one of the cafes in Taunton. The gardens are a popular spot with residents on warmer days where green-fingered residents are welcome to help us keep everything looking good, or to simply sit on the terrace with a cup of tea and watch the visiting wildlife.

Life at Frethey House is a home from home feel, residents feel that they are a part of the Frethey family, and their families, feel the same. Frethey is a place that people always want to come back to and stay with us because of the experience they have had in our community.

What does care from the heart mean to the team at Frethey House?
“Delivering the care that you would like for your family members and loved ones. Showing empathy when caring for residents who have individual care needs, and making it our duty to find out how our residents would like to live and to implement that within our community.”

We love learning as much as we can about who we care for, so your loved one’s time is tailored to their individual need and interests. This can be as small as knowing when they like to wake up, how they like their tea, and everything about their daily routine. Our team take the time to get to know all our residents and encourage independence and communication.

We are dedicated to providing a smooth transition into a home where care is from the heart and interaction with residents is paramount. Our residents show us the way. They tell us what they need, and we do our very best to deliver. Every element of our care is considered with their needs in mind. Surrounding everyone with familiarity, security and care, we make their experience with us as fulfilling as possible.

Meet the Manager

Frethey House - Helen Oliver Home ManagerHelen Oliver is our Home Manager at Frethey House, here’s a little bit more about the home in her own words:

“As Home Manager I believe that our residents should be treated with the highest quality of care possible and endeavor to ensure that my team and I always maintain this, whilst making each day memorable. We provide residential and nursing care on a permanent and short stay basis, offering a range of exciting daily activities, with comfortable quiet spaces to relax or entertain visiting family or friends.

I lead by example and involve myself in day-to-day life of our community as well as making Frethey House a happy and enjoyable place in which to live and work. I take a lot of pleasure from spending time with relatives and residents, understanding the important contribution that these relationships make to the successful running of our community.

It is wonderful to see the smiles on resident’s faces every day. I have worked in care since 2009 with various roles and have educated myself to degree level and completed my Level 10 in Leadership and management in social care last year. It highlighted to me key areas and ideas that I can bring to my team to support them to get the best out of themselves and their roles. It is important to me that everyone gets a chance to develop and have opportunities.

At Frethey House, we are one big family and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day. It is important to us that they feel valued and respected as their experiences and life stories are something we can learn from.

I have recently moved back to the local area and love the countryside that is on our doorstep and the chance to be close to my family again. I am a keen traveller and spending time outside gardening.”
