Meet the Manager
Carmela is our Home Manager at Dormy House, here’s a little bit more about herself and the home in her own words:
“Originally from the Philippines, I am a nurse by profession and I’ve been working in the care sector for about 15 years since I moved to the UK. I continually try to enhance my knowledge and skills as a nurse. As a Home Manager, it allows me to make a difference across the wider community.
I was part of an NHS pilot project designed to reduce hospital admissions, not just in residential care but for any elderly person at home. It was a fascinating project, and I am proud to have been at the forefront of this initiative.
What truly resonates with me is the personal connection I foster with the residents. I prioritise spending meaningful time with them, integrating myself as a familiar presence rather than just an authority figure, and ensuring their comfort and well-being. I sit next to them and find the time to check the whole home’s environment and work closely with my wonderful team here at Dormy. For me, caregiving is a heartfelt commitment to providing the level of care I would want for my own family.
Drawing from my upbringing in the Philippines, where intergenerational living is customary, I approach each resident as a cherished member of my own family, overseeing every aspect of their care with meticulous attention.”
