Walstead Place collected essential items such as toiletries and toys for children to help brighten their day a little, for the humanitarian effort ‘Driving supplies to Poland for Ukraine refugees.’
Home Manager at Walstead Place, Jacquie Ferguson RN said, “We collected items from staff, friends and families, and posted on our Facebook group and local pages, which encouraged the local community and schools to get involved. We were inundated with support and had over 150 bags of donations which was fantastic! Everyone worked together for this humanitarian effort and my Deputy Manager’s mother kindly made some small toiletry bags that our residents helped to fill as they wanted to be involved.”
The care home found further support with the manager Ayu, of ‘Sew Stitch ‘n’ Clean’ on the Broadway in Haywards Heath, who arranged for a van to go to Poland with the donations.
Jacquie Ferguson went on to say, “We have felt so humbled by doing this and how the community have rallied round – even our local Waitrose got involved by delivering four boxes worth of items. We have had such good feedback from the community, and we are so thankful to everyone who got involved.”
Walstead Place has 43 bedrooms, with several of them enjoying views over the delightful, landscaped gardens and the picturesque countryside that surrounds the home. The home provides residential care on a permanent or short stay basis.
