With summer fast approaching, the team and residents at Southlands Place Care Home in Bexhill-on-Sea have been busy transforming their outdoor space for Aria in Bloom.
This year, the residents are growing fresh produce to donate to a local community food bank. They’ve given old, raised planters a new lease of life, creating a vegetable garden by planting coriander, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes from seed earlier in the year. These have now been transferred to the raised beds, alongside established plants and herbs.
Last year, they planted a variety of flowers, including rhododendrons, clematis, and lavender, which have bloomed beautifully this year. This spring, they focused on planting bee- and butterfly-friendly seeds to fill in the gaps. These are now beginning to grow, and the residents can’t wait for them to bloom.
In addition to the garden, they also decided to transform their bar into a garden retreat, creating a relaxing outdoor space for both social gatherings and tranquil escapes. They also refreshed the first and second floor balconies, giving them a tropical touch to provide another space for everyone to enjoy.
Wellbeing Coordinator Nikki said, “We look forward to enjoying the fruits of our labour in the coming months.”
