Magna resident raises money for local church

A beloved resident at Magna Care Centre in Wimborne has raised over £500 by holding a raffle to support the restoration of the Canford Magna Parish Church.

Roy Manners organised Roy’s Raffle, sourcing all the raffle prizes himself and dedicating his days for three weeks to asking residents and any visitors to the home to buy a raffle ticket to raise crucial funds for the church’s much-needed repairs.

Canford Magna Parish Church stands as a testament to history, with its roots dating back over a millennium. The church is now in need of significant repairs to ensure its preservation for generations to come.

The response to Roy’s Raffle was overwhelming, with residents and visitors to the home eagerly participating in the fundraiser, raising £510, going beyond Roy’s target of £350.

To celebrate the success of his fundraising efforts, and the first journey in the home’s new minibus, Roy was accompanied by Magna’s home manager Kayleigh Frulli and members of the community to present a cheque to the Reverend Matt Smith and his wife Lisa.

Roy commented, “I wanted to raise the money as a thank you to church for all they do to support me and my friends at Magna. Matt and Lisa are wonderful people, who really have become friends. It was my pleasure to be able to support a worthwhile cause and I really enjoyed it.”
