Recently at L’Hermitage Care Centre and Beaumont Villa Care Home in St Peter, our residents and colleagues celebrated the Jersey Battle of Flowers.
The Battle of Flowers is an annual Jersey tradition celebrating the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra wherein islanders put on colourful parades with floral floats, throwing flowers at each other for the ‘battle.’
Our residents put their creative flair to work in our arts and crafts sessions to create decorations for the day and helped us to brighten up our homes with some serious flower power! We were also donated a large bucket of beautiful flowers by one of our resident’s daughters, the lovely Michelle, which were shared around the homes.
Due to the weather, we had to improvise but our team came up roses as always and put on a fantastic indoor party for our residents, who dressed up in floral garlands and crowned their very own Mr & Mrs Battle of Flowers.
We were joined by the talented singer and guitarist, Alan AKA Mersey Bean, playing some nostalgic 50s & 60s classics and our catering team served up a delicious BBQ menu with seafood skewers and tandoori chicken that went down a treat.
One of our residents commented, “We had the most enjoyable day – the sun came out eventually. The food and the decorations on the tables were wonderful. The wine and music were even better!”
Thank you to our activities team, our fantastic entertainer, Alan, and our wonderful residents for coming together to make our Battle of Flowers party a ‘blooming’ success!
