Residents at Garth House Care Home had a great time celebrating the Christmas period, starting off by making two different Christmas cakes to share with family and friends and the team at the home.
Our residents chose a traditional English recipe and with the assistance of our Health & Wellbeing Coordinator had lots of laughter and giggles making the cakes together. They reminisced whilst baking and shared amazing stories from their childhoods.
Resident June C said “I always enjoyed helping my mum make cakes. The smell of mixed spice brought back lovely memories. Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in baking again”.
The residents also shared top tips on making a rich fruit cake and decided to use a cherry brandy on this occasion. Resident Gwen W said “make sure you soak the fruit in the brandy very well before mixing all of them together”.
We all had a lovely time over the Christmas period. December always feels like a magical time at Garth House with all the Christmas decorations, lights and festive activities. Our residents enjoyed opening presents together and thoroughly enjoyed an amazing Christmas meal prepared by our Sous Chef.
Garth House welcomed entertainers and carol singers as visitors into the home and together with our Regional Manager Anthony joined in with the Garth House staff choir to sing Christmas carols. Our team love putting on these types of events for our residents to enjoy. Interaction and engagement through events and activities are essential to the care provided at Garth House and include a variety of activity including a Cookery Club once a week, which is very popular with our residents.
