The residents, friends, families and team at Firtree House Nursing Home in Tunbridge Wells took the opportunity and celebrated World Art Day last week, and what is the best way to celebrate the beauty of art? An art exhibition!
Following various conversations with the residents we wanted to display their masterpieces and thought why not ask our colleagues, friends and relatives to participate in the event as well.
We had a very positive response with two relatives who are well-known artists and loved the idea, so brought their paintings to be displayed and admired by all.
Geoff Nutkins, a renowned aviation artist, was one of them. His works are displayed in collections across the world, including those of the RAF Staff College, The Royal Air Force Museum and the United States National D-Day Museum.
As well as Miranda Holland, an artist, illustrator and writer honoured us by displaying five of her paintings alongside her father’s artwork, Barrie who is a resident at our home.
Our exhibition was opened by Michael Lack who cut the ribbon and performed an outstanding and unforgettable jazz concert. We had glasses of prosecco and canapés served throughout the event for all to enjoy while they were viewing all the masterpieces on show.
World Art Day is celebrated annually on the 15th April and promotes the development, diffusion and enjoyment of art and how it enriches our lives. It highlights the role that art plays in showcasing creativity, innovation and diversity. It is celebrated on this day as it coincides with the birthday of renowned artist Leonardo da Vinci.
We would like to thank our wonderful staff, especially Tom and Klara for their hard work and effort to make this event happen, as well as everyone who joined us. It was a great opportunity to share stories behind each painting and bring our community together.
