Last month, the residents at Cranmer Court Care Home in Warlingham enjoyed Aria Care’s first-ever DrumFit session.
Introduced to Cranmer Court by the new activities lead Chris Shields, who took part in a 6-week training course to obtain his DrumFit certificate, the new seated exercise craze improves residents’ fitness, encourages them to socialise, and provides a general sense of wellbeing.
Involving large medicine balls (which are placed in large buckets to keep them secure), drumsticks, and music, participants bang the balls along with the beat of the songs.
Following Chris’ instructions with Gemma’s assistance, the residents tapped along to familiar songs and even had a little singalong. Home manager Norah said, “It was incredible to see some of the residents involved who are living with dementia recognising the tunes and being able to play along in time.”
Well done to our residents Gill, Peggy, Alison, Ann, Eileen, Ann, Janet, and Phyllis who all took part and looking forward to the next session. Gill said, “It makes a lovely change to play drums to music.”
