Coppice Lea Care Home in Merstham recently celebrated the 105th birthday of resident, Olive, marking an amazing milestone in her remarkable life. Born in Marylebone in 1920, Olive has lived a life full of wonderful memories. As a teenager, she worked in stables caring for cart horses, and later moved to Ipswich, where she met her husband at a dance. The couple married and had four children together. During the war, the family were evacuated to Northampton before eventually settling in Croydon. Olive enjoyed an active social life, especially her love for dancing.

Although Olive only joined Coppice Lea at the beginning of this year, she has already become a valued member of the community.

To celebrate her milestone birthday, the team at Coppice Lea made sure it was a special day. Olive’s room and the lounge were decorated, and chef Soumia baked a beautiful birthday cake, accompanied by a buffet for all to enjoy. Residents gathered to sing “Happy Birthday” and raise a toast to Olive, who was joined by friends and family for the occasion.

Olive was delighted to receive a royal letter signed by King Charles and Queen Camilla, congratulating her on reaching 105. She had previously received a letter from Queen Elizabeth II on her 100th birthday and was celebrated by the community in local newspapers.

After being presented with her cake, Olive shared her thanks with everyone, expressing how grateful she was for the celebration and the support from those around her. It was a wonderful day for loved ones to celebrate her life and mark a spectacular milestone!
