The children from Weston Green School recently visited Thames View Care Home in Thames Ditton, dressed as evacuees, to learn about life during the war and hear firsthand stories from residents who had lived through it. The visit sparked many heartwarming conversations, with residents sharing their personal experiences.
The school values hands-on learning and wanted to give the children a unique opportunity to engage with history, while also supporting the residents’ wellbeing through reminiscing about their own childhoods. The children, dressed as evacuees, asked thoughtful and engaging questions and residents had some fascinating stories to share. There were plenty of laughs, and both generations had a wonderful time learning from each other!
