The residents and team at Southlands Place Care Home have been busy on a project in their garden to create a peaceful area for all to enjoy.
The home thought, what better time of year to open this space, than the Queens Platinum Jubilee? A great way to welcome the summer months and celebrate our longest reigning monarch, with our residents and their families by taking part in the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative as well dedicating this part of the garden as a memorial in memory of those that the home lost during the first wave of the pandemic.
We were delighted to have the wonderful Sally Hemmings, our local dementia specialist and Chair of the Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance to come and open this peaceful place, which will be a space for all our residents, families of those lost and the local community to visit and enjoy for years to come. The memorial garden will have additional planting throughout the year, with regular updates on our social media to stay in touch with those connected to our wonderful home.
Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance is important to the Southlands team. They are a group of individuals and organisations who work towards raising awareness of dementia within our community. They help to erase the stigma that surrounds dementia and aid access to things that can improve the quality of life for those with dementia. They began in 2013 and their work is still ongoing. It was an honour to welcome the Chair of this alliance to open our beautiful new part of our garden.
Trees are being planted across the UK to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and everyone at Southlands are proud to be involved in this and do our bit to create a legacy in honour of The Queen, as well as our own past residents, the perfect tribute and first plant in these memorial gardens, with a commemorative plaque.
