At Scoonie House Care Home in Leven, home manager, Melanie, is extremely proud to have a culturally diverse team of employees from all over the world so, with the help of the activities team, arranged a cultural day to celebrate the many different nations and vibrant cultures that make up the Scoonie House team.
Decorated with national flags and maps of the team’s many origins, the dining room looked fabulous and smelled even better with a buffet of delicious dishes from around the world. Everyone brought in homemade traditional food from their native countries to share some new flavours and teach each other about their traditions.
Residents, visitors and team members enjoyed exploring the ‘Around the World’ buffet, trying the different delicacies, including Nigerian jollof rice and Egusi soup, Zimbabwean BBQ pork and sardines, boiled okra from Zambia, Indian yellow pepper Bhuna as well as some classic Scottish dishes like cullen skink and shortbread.
The activities team put on a treasure hunt quiz about different countries, religions and traditions and everyone had a great time competing and learning interesting facts about each other’s cultures.
Team member, Saraju, praised Melanie and the activity team’s efforts – “I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for giving us the opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity in our workplace. Your commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment is deeply appreciated, and it has made a significant impact on us all.”
