Intergenerational Smiles at Riverside Place

A Fabulous Morning with Hertford Regional College Students

There was a real sense of anticipation in the air as Riverside Place residents and staff welcomed students from Hertford Regional College College for a special intergenerational visit. These occasions have become something everyone looks forward to, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint.

From the moment the students arrived, the room filled with easy conversation and laughter. Residents and students teamed up for word games, sparking friendly competition and plenty of good-natured banter. It wasn’t long before stories were being shared and connections formed — proof that age is no barrier to friendship.

The highlight of the morning came when the students treated residents to an impromptu concert. What began as a spontaneous idea quickly turned into a performance that had everyone smiling, clapping along and thoroughly entertained. The warmth in the room was unmistakable.

Joy captured the spirit of the day perfectly, saying, “What a fabulous morning, I’ve had so much fun.”

John, clearly impressed by the performance, simply said, “Aren’t they good.”

Residents and visitors enjoyed snacks, soft drinks and a few chocolates as they chatted together after the music — a simple touch that made the gathering feel even more relaxed and sociable.

The visit was made possible thanks to the home’s strong relationship with Hertford Regional College and the support of Barry Green, who works closely with the team to coordinate the students’ visits. These partnerships are incredibly important, not only bringing fresh energy into the home but also giving young people valuable opportunities to spend time with older generations. It is heartening to know there are always students keen to come along.

Moments like these reflect what matters most at Aria Care: creating a home where relationships flourish, where the community feels connected, and where every day offers the chance for joy. This was more than just a morning of activities — it was a reminder of how much generations can learn from one another, and how powerful a little time together can be.
