Earlier this month, the residents at Riverside Place Care Home in Ware got into the Halloween spirit by creating their very own pumpkins.
Joined by family members, the residents created their very own pumpkins out of old autumnal-coloured clothing. A joint effort by all, they sewed them and winded the wool for the stalks. Those who were unable to sew were encouraged to stuff the pumpkins which they did magnificently.
Wellbeing Coordinator Lyn Wilkie said, “we wanted to do an activity that would evoke memories as well as have a physical benefit. Their self-esteem was boosted when a couple of visitors asked to join in and commented that they were so good we should sell them.”
Resident Gwen said, “I really enjoyed that, I haven’t sewn for years.”
The residents have also been participating in other Halloween activities such as pumpkin carving and decorating the home with spooky items in preparation for next week.
