Rendlesham Comes Together for Remembrance Day

Uniting the Generations in Honouring Those Who Served

Rendlesham Care Centre residents and staff recently came together to honour those who served and died for our freedom by attending and organising Remembrance Day events. The annual remembrances have taken place each year since the conclusion of the First World War, and which aims to honour those who have served in all conflicts. The Remembrance Day service which takes place in London features veterans of all ages, alongside the Royal Family, and other important dignitaries.

The nearest Sunday to Remembrance Day (11th November) is known as Remembrance Sunday, and this year, Rendlesham residents and staff visited the nearby St. Felix Church. The Rendlesham village church welcomed residents to their Remembrance Sunday Service, with resident Mary being chosen to make a reading. For those residents unable to attend, St Felix Church live-streamed the service, allowing less mobile residents to convene in quiet reflection, amongst the comfort of their lounge.

On Remembrance Day, the residents marked the day by hosting members of the local community and local school children at the Rendlesham Village Sign, where the St. Felix Church clergy led a moving memorial service. The touching service included the singing of hymns and the national Anthem, with the moment of remembrance concluding with a minute’s silence and the playing of the Last Post. A deeply moving and meaningful occasion, uniting generations to reflect, remember, and express gratitude.

In the afternoon, we were joined by Foteini from Creative Mojo, who led an enjoyable, yet thoughtful Remembrance-themed craft session with our residents. As the afternoon unfolded, stories were shared, memories gently recalled, and hands busied with creating meaningful pieces of artwork. It felt like a natural and fitting way to bring our Remembrance celebrations to a close — taking time together to remember and honour those who served. The room was filled with warmth, conversation, and splashes of colour, making it a truly special afternoon.
