Knowle Park Resident Celebrates 100 Remarkable Years

A milestone was celebrated at Knowle Park Nursing Home in Cranleigh as resident Peter Hore marked his 100th birthday.

Born on 20th May 1925, Peter has lived a rich and inspiring life, filled with service, family, and passion. A resident of Knowle Park since 2021, Peter is known for his quick wit, love of chess and engaging conversation.

Peter began his career at just 16 years old, starting an apprenticeship in the gas industry as a mechanical engineer. He later joined the Royal Navy, where he proudly served until his retirement. His work in engineering continued even at home, where he enjoyed tinkering in his garage.

A devoted family man, Peter is the proud father of two daughters, with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who bring him endless joy. In his younger years, Peter was an avid swimmer and runner, and he fondly recalls long walks exploring historic places with his best friend—often with a little rum to add to the fun.

On his milestone birthday, Peter enjoyed time out with his daughter and nephew. Upon returning to the home, he was met with a heartfelt celebration led by the team at Knowle Park. The festivities included a specially made cake from the home’s chef, and a card from The King, commemorating his birthday.

When asked about the secret to his long life, Peter shared with a smile: “Just to enjoy life as it is—and drink a bit of rum!”

Caroline Sears, Home Manager at Knowle Park, expressed her admiration: “Peter is a real character, who is fond of talking to people. It has been a pleasure taking care of Peter over the last four years, and we have enjoyed celebrating his centenary with him.”

Happy birthday Peter!
