At Heffle Court Care Home in Heathfield, we are celebrating our talented Head Chef Stuart’s 10-year work anniversary.
Joining Heffle Court in 2014 as a kitchen assistant, Stuart soon progressed to sous chef in 2016 and worked his way up to his current position as head chef, undertaking an NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cooking and a Level 3 in Advanced Hospitality and Leadership to enhance his knowledge and skills.
Reflecting on his time at Heffle Court, Stuart said, ‘in the 10 years that I have worked at Heffle Court I always find the discussions that I have with the residents regarding the meals and menus rewarding. It helps me understand the difference between the generations, their expectations, and the meals that we serve. I have also gained an understanding of how dementia impacts people’s appetites, likes, and dislikes. This helped me to promote person-centred care and tailored menus to meet people’s nutritional needs.”
One of Stuart’s most memorable moments was when he climbed Mount Snowdon to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society as this had a direct link to the work he was undertaking. Stuart added, “That being said, every day as a sous chef was memorable as I learned and enhanced my skills with the aim of becoming a head chef, a role that I’ve recently been promoted to.”
When asked what ‘Care from the Heart’ means to him, he replied “it means that I am part of the whole home approach to delivering the best we can to the residents within the home. Knowing I am an active part of the jigsaw that makes up the heart that beats within Aria Care.”
