An interview with Care Assistant Dinesh

An interview with Care Assistant Dinesh

Having worked within the care industry for over two years as a care assistant, 21-year-old Dinesh joined the team at Heffle Court Care Home in Heathfield in August this year. With a passion for caring and supporting residents, he talks to us about his career and why he believes it’s the best job.

What encouraged you to start a career within care?

I always had a natural feeling to help others, especially people who are unable to do day-to-day tasks independently. It’s not just a job for me, when I see a resident smiling or feeling better because of something that I have done, it makes me feel good. It’s a reminder that even the smallest of actions can have a huge impact on someone’s life.

What do you like most about your job?

The best part of my job is that I can connect with the residents and make a difference in their lives. I like to offer person-centred care to our residents based on their needs and preferences and listen to their fascinating life stories. It can be emotionally hard but knowing that I can make someone’s day better is really rewarding.

What would you say to the younger generation to encourage them to join the care profession?

We are young, fresh, and have a lot of energy to try something new so why not use this energy to care for someone? We can bring many strengths to the role such as staying calm under pressure and problem-solving skills which are most important in this field. Not only do I get personal satisfaction, but there are also a lot of opportunities to grow in this profession which is great.
