Claydon House Residents Welcome Lewes Community Police

Strengthening Community Connections

Claydon House Residents were delighted to welcome members of the Lewes Community Police for an engaging and informative chat. They visit brought learning, laughter and lively conversation into the heart of the community.

The session was organised by the wellbeing team as part of the home’s regular programme of community engagement, reflecting the values of Aria Care in keeping residents connected to the people and services around them.

Community Policeman Tom joined residents in the bistro, where they gathered with tea, coffee and cakes for a relaxed group talk. He spoke about his role in the local area, the training he undertook to become a police officer and some of his day-to-day experiences. The atmosphere was open and conversational, with residents encouraged to ask questions throughout.

John was keen to get involved, asking a number of thoughtful questions and listening carefully to Tom’s answers. Afterwards, he continued the conversation with a friend and made sure to thank Tom for coming, asking if he would visit again.

Leslie also took an active part in the discussion. He said he found the talk interesting and appreciated the opportunity to learn more about policing in Lewes. At the end of the session, he thanked Tom and said he hoped to see him back at the home soon.

Beryl shared that she had really enjoyed the visit and found it interesting to hear about the work of the police. Joan joined the group for part of the session and made the most of the opportunity to ask questions about Tom’s experiences.

The photograph from the day shows Tom with Tina, the home’s Wellbeing Coordinator, alongside residents John and Leslie – a simple moment that reflects the importance of community links within the home.

The feedback from residents was clear: they valued the chance to meet Tom, learn more about his work and spend time in discussion together. Plans are already being considered for a return visit, which many residents are looking forward to.
