Celebrating generations of nursing at Belmont House

belmont house nurses week

Belmont House Nursing Home in Sutton turned International Nurses Day into a full week of celebrations, bringing residents, families and the team together to recognise nurses past and present.

Throughout the week, the home celebrated residents who spent their careers in nursing, giving them the chance to share their stories. The team provided traditional nurse uniforms for them to wear, which brought back fond memories for many. One relative said, “It was so touching to see my mum in a nurse’s uniform. I remember those days – she truly loved being a nurse.”

Clementine Solwandle, Liaison Nurse and Independent Nurse Practitioner from Sutton Care Home Support, paid a special visit during the week to share her own experience as a nurse. Her story struck a chord with residents and families alike.

Later in the week, a surprise cooking competition in the garden brought everyone together in a different way. Residents, relatives and team members teamed up to cook dishes from around the world, with the idea that care and cooking have something in common – both are about looking after others. The smell of spices and sound of sizzling pans filled the garden, and the winning dish was a standout: a delicious oriental chicken noodle bowl.

To round off the celebrations, nurses at Belmont House were given thoughtful gifts and treats to thank them for the work they do every day. It was a week of genuine appreciation – and a chance to recognise the people who make care their life’s work.
