We’re incredibly proud of our hardworking and talented colleagues, and we believe this is something to be celebrated.

Our colleagues are trained professionals with the skills to support our residents and their loved ones in all aspects of their daily lives. They are kind and compassionate people, devoted to improving residents’ lives. Every member of the team commits to their role but sometimes one star shines out the brightest. Our Hearts of Gold awards are a monthly opportunity to recognise and celebrate them for always going the extra mile.

Wrapping up on some of our recent awards, we’re proudly looking back on some of our Hearts of Gold, nominated by their team members:

Decena – Hulcott Nursing Home

Hulcott Nursing Home recently presented the Hearts of Gold award to Wellbeing Coordinator, Decena Melon. Decena has worked at Hulcott for five years and is an absolute asset to the team. She is a jolly, people orientated person and the kind of person that gets along with everyone and can make anyone laugh.

She’s dedicated to her role, always going the extra mile to help colleagues and residents. Her responsibilities include organising events and planning meaningful and engaging activities for her residents. She’s also very involved in community work and is very popular within the local community.

Krasimira Nicolova, home manager at Hulcott, commented that Decena “created a very warm welcome for me,” and that she puts great care into marking special occasions,– “She can make even a small thing into a big event.”

Ana – Magna Care Centre

Magna Care Centre presented a Hearts of Gold award to Registered Nurse, Ana Rusu. Ana has worked at Magna for 9 years and has previously worked as clinical lead and acting deputy.

Ana is hardworking, supportive, empathetic and goes above and beyond for Magna Care. She takes on a variety of responsibilities, including care planning, team-leading, running the nursing unit, managing end-of-life care and supporting families through difficult times.

Kayleigh Frulli commented, “Ana is a natural leader, with the ability to guide her team through any challenges. She always goes the extra mile and really knows everyone’s little quirks!”

Sophie – Walstead Place

Walstead Place Care Home recently named their Heart of Gold winner as Sophie Vaughan, a kind and caring care assistant who has worked at the home since 2020.

Sophie is committed to providing person-centred care and meeting residents’ requirements as they arise.

Home manager, Jacquie Ferguson, said, “She is the gentlest person you will ever meet – kind, thoughtful and caring. She epitomises what ‘Care from the Heart’ means.”

Sophie aspires to take on more challenges in her role, she has recently gained her medication competencies and now learning new skills to become a future team leader.

Yvonne – Walstead Place

Previously, Walstead Place presented the award to another incredible care assistant – Yvonne Cannings.

Yvonne is kind-hearted and patient, always treating residents with compassion and consideration, no matter how much pressure she’s under in any given situation. She gives 100% commitment to her role and often helps out when the home is short-staffed.

Yvonne was nominated for the Hearts of Gold award by her colleagues and, on presenting the award to her, home manager, Jacquie Ferguson, commented, “Yvonne is old-school. She believes the residents come first and will always be there to help them achieve a good day!”

Karen – Kingsclear

Kingsclear Care Home presented the Hearts of Gold award to their Administrator, Karen, who has worked at Kingsclear for 3 years.

Karen has worked in the elderly care sector for over 30 years in various roles including carer, HR and office support. She plays a vital role at Kingsclear, supporting the home manager and team with all administrative functions.

“At Kingsclear, we are one big family and everything we do is from the heart, delivering care with passion, respect, and empathy. I very much enjoy residents, relatives and staff chatting with me each day – I feel I give emotional support and empathy,” Karen commented.

Home Manager, Rob Cook, presented Karen with the award after she received the most nominations from the team.

“Karen is hard working, patient, caring and knowledgeable, she is so kind and will go above and beyond for everyone!”

Edit – Galsworthy House

The team at Galsworthy House Nursing Home nominated their Housekeeper, Edit in recognition of her hard work, commitment and attention to detail.

Her role is to ensure that the highest possible standard of cleanliness and hygiene is adopted for all areas of the home and to work in accordance with the policies and procedures.

Home Manager, Serpil Mitchell, proudly presented her with the award and commented, “Edit is very dedicated and hardworking. She takes on extra responsibilities and manages the rota and her team. Her reliability, helpfulness and dedication are second to none. She has a lovely personality and gets on well with her colleagues.”

The team and residents at Galsworthy House are all grateful to have Edit. Serpil added, “Residents, colleagues and relatives always praise her quality of work.”
