In a closely-fought battle of culinary creativity and passion, Aria Care has crowned its Chef of the Year for 2025: Simon Boyden, from Knowle Park in Cranleigh.
The event, now in its third year, was held at Brakes’ culinary innovation centre in Reading and saw six of Aria’s most talented chefs from across the estate go head-to-head in this year’s final. Each finalist showcased their flair and skill in a high-pressure cook-off that highlighted the exceptional standard of food served daily in Aria’s care communities.
Simon’s winning dish – pan-fried hake fillet with crushed potato, swede and parsnip puree, roasted spice aubergine, crispy leeks and a spinach and brie cream sauce – wowed the judging panel, which included the group’s Hospitality Director, James Clear, who was full of praise for the standard on display:
“Every finalist brought something special to the table, but Simon’s creativity, attention to detail, and understanding of our residents’ needs truly stood out. It’s clear he cooks with heart as well as skill, and that’s a combination that defines great hospitality in care.”
Simon’s dessert was a seasonal pumpkin and mascarpone millefeuille with honey roasted figs and a summer berry and beetroot puree.
The competition is about more than just cooking; it’s a celebration of how food can bring comfort, prompt memories, and create moments of genuine connection for residents. It also shines a spotlight on the chefs who put so much care into every plate they serve.
