Black History Month: Raising Awareness at Huntercombe Hall

Celebratory Rhythms!

The residents and staff at Huntercombe Hall came together recently, in joyful unity, to celebrate Black History Month. The importance of Black History Month means a great deal to all at Huntercombe Hall, and this was illustrated beautifully in their approach to the occasion.

In celebration of the many distinct cultures which have contributed to black history, and which have benefited the world, most would agree, is worthy of more months than are found in a year. The many celebrated persons who have gifted the world, from genius musicians to beloved sports persons, authors, and world-renowned states persons cause Black History month to be a celebration of humanities finest people. They include, amongst others, Bob Marley, Martin Luther King, Mohammed Ali, Nelson Mandela, and Maya Angelou. A small sample of the giants who have benefited Black history and culture, as well as the entirety of humanity.

In the lead up to their special celebratory event, the residents of Huntercombe Hall enjoyed an enlightening and fun week honouring black history and culture. They enthusiastically took part in craft sessions, where their artistic impulses were directed in the creation of decorations and creative expressions of black history and culture. Their completed pieces were then displayed throughout the home, which helped set the tone for the concluding event.

Huntercombe Hall’s Black History Month celebratory party was held in the home’s lounge, which had been decorated with their artwork. The centrepiece of the event was an African drumming session, performed by a professional troupe. Much to the delight of the residents, they were invited to join the professionals and test their drumming skills. To compliment the African rhythms, the kitchen team provided a selection of African specialities for residents and family members to sample.

What better way to represent the unity and togetherness of the community at Huntercombe Hall than by celebrating Black History Month in this touching manner.
