Open Week celebrations at Scoonie House

Scoonie House Care Home in Leven recently opened its doors to the community for Care Home Open Week – a week packed with fun, laughter and meaningful moments. Residents, families, and local visitors all joined in to celebrate life at the home, with something special happening each day. Here’s a look back at the week’s highlights:

Intergenerational fun

The week kicked off with a visit from the children at Buckhaven Nursery, who brought plenty of energy and smiles to the home. The children shared their musical instruments with residents and team members, leading to a lively sing-and-dance-along. Afterwards, the little ones made the most of the sunshine with some outdoor play in the garden, bringing joy to all who watched.

Games Day

Tuesday was all about games, and residents were joined by visitors from the local community to enjoy some friendly competition. There were games of golf, Connect 4, cards, and dominos taking place throughout the home. For some, the day stirred fond memories – resident Bob shared how much he’d missed playing golf and loved having the chance to play again.

Quiz Day

The midweek buzz was all about brain teasers and tunes. The team organised a day of music-themed fun, including a quiz, word searches, and a game of “Guess the Advert.” There were lots of laughs and some very competitive faces! Resident Christina was on a roll, joking, “I’m really good at this guessing for my age!”

Hydration Day

With warm weather all week, Thursday focused on the importance of staying hydrated. Residents sampled a range of refreshing treats including jellies, fruit-infused water, and ice lollies. It was a fun and tasty way to raise awareness of hydration and health.

Library launch & a special honour

The week was rounded off with a big celebration for the grand opening of the new community library in the garden. Residents, families, and children from St Agatha’s Nursery joined for the occasion, along with local councillor Alistair Suttie.

It was a proud day for resident Mary Cartwright, who was honoured for her 60 years of charity work. Councillor Suttie presented Mary with a BEM award and also officially opened the new library, much to everyone’s delight. Resident Jean summed it up perfectly, saying, “This is such a lovely thing to have in our community!”
