Kingsclear hatches chicks in special Springtime tradition

As the first signs of spring arrived, the residents and team at Kingsclear Care Home in Camberley welcomed some tiny new members into the fold. Three fluffy chicks hatched safely in the home, quickly becoming the centre of attention among residents and the team.

This magical moment was part of a very special project, now in its third year, made possible through Kingsclear’s ongoing friendship with Browells Wood pet therapy farm. The farm provided an incubator and fertilised eggs, giving residents the chance to witness the incredible process of new life beginning.

From the start, residents were hands-on in caring for the eggs. They helped maintain the right environment and watched over the eggs, waiting patiently for the moment each chick would make its debut. When the chicks began to hatch, there was a lot of excitement around the home. They were quickly given the creative and amusing names – Dolly Part-Hen, Petunia Pickle, and Erry — a combination of Erin and Harry, Kingsclear’s wellbeing coordinators.

Over the following days, residents took great pride in caring for the chicks, feeding them, and cuddling them to keep them warm. For resident Olive, it brought back fond memories of her youth: “I used to raise chicks on the farm. I love them so much!”

Although the chicks will soon return to Browells Wood to rejoin their flock, their brief stay has brought some real magic to the home and this wonderful springtime tradition has created many special memories.
