A Weekend Full of Joy, Laughter and Lasting Memories
At Steep House, every day is an opportunity to create meaningful moments, and this past weekend was no exception. Residents enjoyed a packed schedule of stimulating activities, companionship and plenty of good cheer.
On Saturday morning, the colourful Duplo bricks made a welcome appearance, sparking both creativity and nostalgia. Not only are these hands-on sessions excellent for maintaining manual dexterity, but they also open the door to treasured childhood memories. Jean was especially delighted to share the experience with her baby doll, proudly showing her the Duplo dog and carefully building a towering structure together.
Later in the afternoon, excitement filled the lounge as the FA Cup Semi-Final took centre stage. A number of football enthusiasts chose to enjoy their supper in front of the television so they wouldn’t miss a moment of the action. Roy, ever the loyal fan, remarked that it was a “good game”—though, in his view, it would have been even better if Portsmouth had made it to the semi-final’s!
Sunday brought with it the energy of the London Marathon. Residents gathered to cheer on the runners, with Agnes and Trissie particularly enjoying the inventive fancy dress outfits on display. Su, ever the dancer, wasn’t sure about running 26 miles—but mused she could perhaps dance it instead, especially with a few staff members joining her for support.
In quieter moments between the larger events, the weekend was filled with enriching and relaxing activities. There were card games, books and newspapers to enjoy, word puzzles to solve, and a lively quiz to keep minds engaged. Conversations flowed freely throughout the home, with residents sharing stories and laughter. Eric summed up the spirit of the weekend perfectly by suggesting a trip to the beach for chips in the sunshine—an offer that raised plenty of smiles and enthusiastic nods.
