September was 1940s month at Wytham House Care Home. Residents enjoyed some themed tea parties, walks in the fresh air and even a spontaneous ‘Name that Tune’ when one of our residents started playing the piano for us all.
Music cheers everyone up and lifts the spirits. Our residents had a great time, guessing the tunes. Music can transport you back to another time and place and can have a hugely beneficial effect on our residents, having a toe-tap to some classics can bring memories flooding back of trips to dance halls and of special occasions.
Old photos and objects can spark memories and create conversations about the good old days. Getting together for an activity provides much needed socialisation and engagement which is a key ingredient of activity-based care.
