Home of Compassion has been leading the way for festive preparations by collecting and distributing over 64 ‘Operation Christmas Child’ shoe boxes to it’s local Thames Ditton community.
On behalf of international relief charity, Samaritans Purse, the aim of the initiative this year is to collect a variety of gifts for children living in Africa and Ukraine – in readiness for Christmas.
Pam Jeffels, Customer Relations Manager for Home of Compassion Care Home, gained excellent momentum locally for the initiative which was first developed in 1990 and has seen over 178 million children worldwide benefit from the kindness of strangers.
Pam said: “Both residents and staff of our care home thought it would be good to get involved so we mobilised the families and friends of our residents along with the local community, individuals and businesses.
“In total, a fantastic 64 gift-filled boxes have been donated along with cash donations totalling a fabulous £320!
“Huge thank you to our wonderful local community. The donations and gifts will be delivered to children living in Africa and Ukraine this Christmas.
“The gift of giving provides so many benefits to our residents and staff at Home of Compassion, such as the feeling of social connection, promoting happiness and improving health. It is heart-warming to see the outcomes and benefits of the initiative to all involved.”
Community groups involved this year include Weston Green School and All Saints Church Weston.
“At Weston Green School this term, the children have developed a deeper understanding of people less fortunate that us. Items we may take for granted can seem like luxuries to victims living in poverty caused by war, natural disasters, disease and famine. By filling a shoebox with simple things, we hope we can bring some joy to those in need this festive season.” Caroline Robins, Marketing Manager at Weston Green School
