Steep House Welcomes Petersfield’s New Mayor for a Heartwarming Visit
Steep House Nursing Home was delighted to welcome Petersfield’s newly elected Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Paige, for a visit that brought smiles, memories, and meaningful conversation.
During his time at Steep House, Cllr Paige enjoyed a guided tour of their home and its tranquil gardens, taking the opportunity to meet with both residents and members of the care team. His presence was warmly received, with residents eager to engage in conversation and share their stories.
One resident, Nora, fondly recognised the mayor from his previous visit to their garden party last year. This time, she was particularly curious about the ceremonial mayoral chain he wore. In response, Cllr Paige kindly explained the significance of the Hampshire rose featured on the badge, and pointed out the date “1974”, marking the establishment of the Town and East Hampshire District Councils.
As an active member of the Petersfield branch of the Royal British Legion, Cllr Paige expressed a heartfelt interest in the wartime experiences of our residents. He spoke of the importance of capturing these personal histories—both from those who served and those who lived through times of conflict—before they are lost to time. His visit highlighted the invaluable role that care homes play in preserving the heritage and memories of their local communities.
The team at Steep House are grateful to the mayor for taking the time to visit and share in the life of our home. We look forward to welcoming him back in the near future, and continuing to build strong connections with the wider Petersfield community.
