Rendlesham Primary pupils read to residents

Rendlesham primary school

Recently at Rendlesham Care Centre, in Rendlesham, we were visited by the lovely pupils of Rendlesham Primary School to meet with our residents and read to them. The children read some of their favourite books and chatted with our residents about school and some of the fun activities we get up to at Rendlesham. It was such a wonderful day and a lovely moment for our residents, who were delighted to meet the children and listen to them reading stories.

Intergenerational activities are so beneficial for older people and care home residents as they provide the opportunity for socialising, mental and physical stimulation and emotional support as well as bringing out the kid in them, encouraging playfulness, spontaneity, and creativity. It’s also a great educational activity for children, helping their social development, increasing empathy and teaching them about another generation.

It was a heartwarming moment for all, and the benefits were very apparent during the school’s visit. Our residents and the children really enjoyed each other’s company and learned a lot from each other about their different worlds.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Rendlesham Primary School for visiting us and spending time with our residents, they all had a wonderful time, and we hope to have you all back again!
