One team member at Ivy Court Care Home, Mollie Hunt, set herself the challenge of completing 10,000 steps per day through the month of January in order to raise funds for Age UK.
At Ivy Court, we try to carry out one charitable event per month, so Mollie visited Age UK with her idea of taking 10,000 steps a day throughout January in order to raise money for their organisation. Not only would it be for a great cause but would also help to shift the ‘Christmas bloat’, as she phrased it! Mollie said, “what better way to raise money for charity and also be active”.
Age UK is the UK’s leading charity for older people, dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life. Ageing can be challenging and Age UK provide services and support at both national and local level to inspire, enable and support older people.
Age UK supported Mollie’s initiative by posting on their Facebook page and sharing her posts, also supplying some merchandise such as a water bottle and vest. She completed the steps locally and around the home and its gardens. Mollie had the full support of the residents and staff at Ivy Court, as well as the residents’ families.
“10,000 steps a day is a lot, but I believed Mollie could do it, she is young and healthy. What a wonderful way for raising money for such a well-deserved cause to improve life for the elderly.” said one residents’ family member. Mollie did brilliantly to reach her target and presented her fundraising cheque to Holly at Age UK at the end of January. Holly from Age UK was delighted to receive the cheque and commented, “An amazing £410 raised, well done Mollie”.
