Last month, the residents at Hulcott Nursing Home in Aylesbury celebrated Diwali with a visit from Abhinaya Fine Arts students.
A five-day celebration, the Festival of Lights is one of India’s most widely celebrated holidays. Celebrating new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness, Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains mark the occasion with traditions such as enjoying festive meals, colourful light displays, and family gatherings.
To celebrate the festival, Wellbeing Coordinator Decena arranged for students from Abhinaya Fine Arts to visit the residents for a Diwali dance workshop and share information about their culture, and the importance of Diwali celebrations.
Spending the afternoon with the students, the residents thoroughly enjoyed watching the dance and learning about their culture. Along with tea and biscuits, the kitchen team also made Indian delicacies for all to enjoy.
Decena said, “thank you to all the students, they not only represented their school, but they brought happiness to everyone.”
