Coxhill Manor in Chobham recently celebrated a remarkable milestone, recognising senior care assistant Lillian for an incredible 25 years of dedicated service at the home.
Lillian’s journey into care began somewhat unexpectedly. Working in customer service at the time, she found herself seeking a role with greater meaning—something that resonated more deeply with her natural instinct to help others. When a close family member required care and she stepped in as their primary caregiver, everything changed. The experience opened her eyes to the impact compassionate care can have, and from that moment, she knew it was the path she wanted to pursue.
Now, a quarter of a century later, Lillian has become a much-valued and deeply respected member of the team at Coxhill Manor. Her role involves providing both physical and emotional support to residents, ensuring their daily needs are met with dignity and kindness. While the role brings its challenges and emotional demands, Lillian says she and her colleagues take things one step at a time, always leaning on each other for support.
Reflecting on her time at the home, Lillian shared:
“The most rewarding aspect of my role is the relationships I build with the residents. When I see someone’s face light up because I helped them feel more comfortable or heard—it means everything.”
Among her many fond memories is a moment she shared with a resident who had been withdrawn for some time.
“One day, I sat down with her and we started talking about her younger years. Before I knew it, we were laughing about the mischief she’d gotten up to as a child. That day, I saw a spark in her that had been missing for a long time—and it reminded me of why I do what I do.”
Twenty-five years is an extraordinary achievement and a true testament to Lillian’s commitment to caring for others. Looking ahead, she remains as passionate as ever.
“Ultimately, my goal is to continue making a positive difference in the lives of the people I care for, while also growing and developing as a professional.”
Everyone at Coxhill Manor is proud to celebrate this milestone with Lillian and grateful for the dedication, warmth and compassion she brings to the home every single day.
