Coxhill Manor’s historical Firefighter’s Day celebration

Team and residents at Coxhill Manor in Chobham recently came together to celebrate International Firefighters’ Day and show their appreciation for the local fire service. Unfortunately the service had to cancel, however, the team made the most of the occasion and called in a very special favour.

Alan, a member of the local community and supporter of the home, brought along his very own collector’s item— a stunning 1950s Dennis fire engine. Residents were thrilled to see the beautifully restored vintage vehicle, which Alan owns himself. The open-cab engine captivated everyone with its original wooden ladders, hand-cranked siren, polished bell, and gleaming red paintwork.

Alan took great pleasure in sharing the many fascinating features of the fire engine, including its old dashboard controls and hose reels. Residents gathered around, admiring the craftsmanship and reminiscing about similar engines they’d seen in their younger years.

The sunny afternoon was made even more memorable with tea, cake, and fireman-themed cupcakes, all lovingly prepared by our talented hospitality team. It was a wonderful way to celebrate International Firefighters’ Day and pay tribute to fire service responders both past and present with some fascinating history.
